What NOT to say to a grieving parent

miscarriageSometimes the unimaginable happens, and the parents who ere preparing for the joy of a new baby are left to grieve an unbearable absence.  These parents are sometimes met with comfort and strength from the friends and family, but sometimes they encounter silence “I don’t know what to say” or perhaps worse, well-meaning platitudes which end up causing more harm than good.  This story by a mother who has lost 2 of her babies, is an eloquent reminder of what we should not say to a parent who is grieving. http://www.upworthy.com/5-things-i-didnt-want-to-hear-when-i-was-grieving-and-1-thing-that-helped?c=ufb5

Words that don’t help

“Everything happens for a reason.”

“They are in a better place.

“At least you have one survivor. Count your blessings.”

“You are still young. You can have more children.”

“I don’t know how you do it. I couldn’t imagine losing two children.”
